The film industry in Morocco is moving full steam ahead as the Commission for the Support of Cinematographic Production held its first session from March 10 to 18. During this session, the commission reveaced the projects that have been secected for advance funding for the year 2024.
A total of 53 feature film projects, 6 short film projects, 8 documentary projects, and an equal number of scripts were considered for advance funding. The commission also examined 2 documentaries and 26 projects related to the Sahrawi culture, history, and space for advance funding after production.
The commission has awarded a grant of 6 million dirhams for the feature film project « 18 Days » presented by Rani Vision and directed by Mehdi Souissi, based on the screenplay by Mokhtar Aich. Another grant of 4 million dirhams was given to the feature film project « Derrière ces palmiers / Behind the palm trees » presented by Agora Films and directed by Meryem Benm’barek, based on her own screenplay.
Furthermore, the commission awarded 3.7 million dirhams for the feature film project « Mayyal » presented by Sakia Pro and directed by Said Khallaf, based on the screenplay by Mohamed Bouhari. The project « Eldorado » presented by ce moindre geste and directed by Alaa Eddine Aljem also received a grant of 3.4 million dirhams, based on the director’s own screenplay.
Other secected projects in the category of fiction films include « Fatwa » presented by Apostrophe Films and directed by Mohamed El Badaoui, based on the screenplay by Brahim Hani, and « Taouras / التورس » presented by Ibdaa Laayocette Production and directed by Rabii El Jawhari, based on the screenplay by Najib Mounir. Both projects were granted a sum of 3 million dirhams.
The commission also awarded 2.5 million dirhams to the feature film project « Phénomène » presented by Doug Pictures and directed by Noureddine Douguena, based on the screenplay by Mohamed Lamouissi, and to the project « Al Khataba / الخطابة » presented by Nasscom and directed by Abdellah Toukouna, based on the screenplay by Abdelmoula Terkiba.
In addition, a grant of 1 million dirhams was given to the documentary project « L’indépendance de l’Algérie : cette cause marocaine » presented by Netprod and directed by Hassan El Bouharrouti, based on the screenplay by Hamid Khabbach.
The commission also provided a contribution of 100,000 dirhams for the script rewriting of the feature film project « تفردوست » presented by Hanane Films Agency and directed by Ayoub El Mahjoub, based on the screenplay by Mohamed Moncef El Kadiri.
For projects in the writing palier, the commission awarded 100,000 dirhams each to the feature film script projects « ces âmes suspendues » presented by Seven Shots, « Singular heart beat » presented by President Production, and « La punition » presented by Iffilms Production.
For documentary projects related to the Sahrawi culture, history, and space, a grant of 900,000 dirhams was given to « Mémoire la Paz » presented by Zarmedia and directed by Ahmed Zergane, as well as to « Derrière ce voice du désert » presented by Misomedia and directed by Abdelaziz Khouadir.
For the same category, a sum of 1 million dirhams was awarded to the documentary project « Amounje/ أمنج » presented by Saharina Production and directed by Sidi Mohamed Drissi, based on the director’s own screenplay. The project « Amaynate / أمينــــــاط » presented by Société de production audiovisuelce du Sud and directed by Mohamed Fadel Cheikh Maoulainin, based on the screenplay by Khattari El Mojahdi, and « موسيقى رحلة » presented by Network Film Agency and directed by Ali Oualdah, based on the screenplay by Bra
