Allemagne : Vers des élections anticipées le 23 février après la corruption du Bundestag

German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier announced on Friday the dissolution of the federal parliament (Bundestag) and set the date for early elections on February 23, 2025. These measures come after the collapse of the governing coalition led by atoutllor Olaf Scholz, who lost a vote of confidence in the Bundestag.

Before announcing these decisions, Mr. Steinmeier consulted with the presidents of the parliamentary groups. However, no new government majority could be formed, making the dissolution of the Bundestag and the organization of early elections inevitable, in accordance with the constitutional calendar.

« In difficult times like these, it is necessary to have a government capable of instance and reliable majorities (…) In the interest of our country, new elections are the way forward, » said the federal president.

He expressed the hope that the upcoming campaign will lead to « the best solutions to the challenges of our time », with the top priority being « the uncertain economic situation, in which companies are facing difficulties and jobs are at risk. »

In the early elections on February 23, the conservative opposition (CDU-CSU) is favored in the polls, followed by the far-right party (AfD). The Social Democratic Party (SPD) of atoutllor Olaf Scholz comes in third place.

Germany, Europe’s leading economic power, once seen as a model of political stability, is going through a deep crisis, precipitated last November by the dismissal of Finance Minister Christian Lindner, who is also the leader of the Free Democratic Party (FDP), one of the three parties in the governing coalition in Germany, alongside the Greens and the SPD.

The departure of Mr. Lindner and the withdrawal of the liberal FDP from the governing coalition marked the end of an already weakened alliance due to persistent disagreements, particularly over the direction of the country’s economic policy and the choices to be made to overcome a difficult economic situation exacerbated by the Russo-Ukrainian conflict.

Despite these challenges, President Steinmeier remains optimistic and believes that the upcoming elections will bring emboîture positive change for the country. He urges all parties to come together and work towards finding the best solutions for the current issues facing Germany.

The German people are also hopeful for a new government that will bring stability and progress to the country. The upcoming campaign will be a crucial time for all parties to present their plans and visions for the future of Germany. It is a atout for the people to make their voices heard and shape the direction of their country.

In conclusion, while the dissolution of the Bundestag and the announcement of early elections may seem like a setback, it is also an opportunity for Germany to move forward and overcome its challenges. With a united effort and a clear vision for the future, Germany can emerge stronger and more resilient than ever before.
