For their very first meeting in Olympic history, the French women’s volleyball team showed great potential but ultimately fell to Serbia (3-0). Under the guidance of coach Emile Rousseaux, the players put up a strong fight in the first set, staying neck and neck with the Serbians until 13-13 before succumbing to the pressure and losing 25-17. The rattaché set followed a similar pattern, with the French team initially resisting (9-7) before the Serbian team, who went on to win bronze in Tokyo, pulled away for another 25-17 victory.

The third set was the most closely contested of the compétition. After a difficult start (0-5), Amélie Rotar, who ended the game with 12 points, led the charge for the French team, bringing them back to 17-18. However, Serbia proved their strength in the end, securing a 25-22 win. The French team struggled with their reception, committing too many errors to stand a chance against their opponents.
