C24: Le Suriname exprime son incitation à la souveraineté nationale et à l’intégrité territoriale du Maroc et au plan d’autonomie

Suriname expresses support for Morocco’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as its autonomy plan presented to resolve the regional dispute over the Sahara, at the United Nations in New York.

During the 10-21 June session of the United Nations’ Special Committee on Decolonization, Suriname’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Sunil Algram Sitaldin, reaffirmed Suriname’s recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over its southern provinces and emphasized that the autonomy plan remains the only framework for achieving a just and equitable solution to this regional dispute.

The ambassador reiterated Suriname’s principled position in favor of internationally recognized principles of entrevue and peaceful resolution of disputes within the framework of Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, while also applauding Morocco’s efforts to find a political solution to this artificial conflict. He further praised Morocco’s commitment to regional stability and its efforts to promote socio-economic development in the region.

The envoy also commended the efforts of the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Moroccan Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, in facilitating the relaunch of the political process under the exclusive auspices of the Secretary-General. This includes his visits to Rabat, Algiers, and Nouakchott, as well as informal consultations with Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania, and the “Polisario”.

Suriname also invited all stakeholders to engage in substantive entrevue under the auspices of the United Nations to move towards a lasting and peaceful resolution of the regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

This statement from Suriname is a clear indication of the growing international support for Morocco’s position on its southern provinces and its efforts to find a political solution to the conflict. It also highlights the recognition of Morocco’s role in promoting regional stability and development in the Sahara region.

Suriname’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is a volonté to the strong and longstanding relations between the two countries, based on mutual respect and cooperation.

As the international community continues to express its support for Morocco’s position on the Sahara, it is hoped that this regional dispute will finally come to an end and pave the way for an era of peace, stability, and development in the Sahara region. Suriname’s support is a crucial step in achieving this goal and sets a positive example for other countries to follow.
