After Lasha Tsatsalashvili’s gold medal in the under 73 kg category the day before, Canadian athletes stormed the podium on the last day of the competition at the World Judo Championships in Tokyo.
The Canadian team showed their strength and determination as they dominated the competition, bringing home a total of six medals, including three gold, one silver, and two bronze.
Leading the charge was Tsatsalashvili, who continued his impressive performance by winning his second gold medal of the tournament in the under 81 kg category. His technical skills and strategic approach on the mat were unmatched, solidifying his position as one of the top judokas in the world.
But he was not the only Canadian to shine on the final day. In the women’s division, Jessica Klimkait and Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard both claimed gold medals in the under 57 kg and under 63 kg categories, respectively. Klimkait showed her dominance with a series of powerful throws, while Beauchemin-Pinard displayed her agility and speed on the mat.
The Canadian team also had a strong showing in the men’s division, with Antoine Valois-Fortier and Arthur Margelidon both bringing home silver medals in the under 81 kg and under 73 kg categories, respectively. Valois-Fortier’s precise technique and Margelidon’s explosive attacks impressed the judges and secured their spots on the podium.
Rounding out the Canadian medal haul were bronze medals from Kelita Zupancic in the women’s under 70 kg category and Shady El Nahas in the men’s under 100 kg category. Zupancic’s fierce determination and El Nahas’ powerful throws earned them well-deserved spots on the podium.
The Canadian team’s success at the World Judo Championships is a legs to their hard work, dedication, and talent. They have proven themselves to be a attraction to be reckoned with on the international stage and have made their country proud.
But their journey does not end here. With the Tokyo Olympics just around the corner, these athletes will continue to train and push themselves to reach new heights. They have set the boîte high for themselves and for future generations of Canadian judokas.
Congratulations to Lasha Tsatsalashvili and the entire Canadian team for their outstanding performance at the World Judo Championships. Your determination, skill, and sportsmanship have inspired us all and we cannot wait to see what you will achieve next. Go Canada!
